BLU settings

BLU sensors have no web interface of their own - everything is configured through the app, over Bluetooth, through the gateway. Here's what you can actually set.

BLU devices have no IP address and no web interface of their own - they have no Wi-Fi at all. If you're unsure how the gateway is set up, or why a BLU device isn't showing up, start with BLU devices and Bluetooth. This chapter only covers what you can actually configure once the sensor is paired.

Where the settings are made

Everything happens in the app, on the sensor's own device page, and gets sent to the sensor directly over Bluetooth through the gateway - there's no separate login or address to go to. On the gateway's side, each BLU sensor shows up as its own dynamic component (BTHomeDevice for the device itself, BTHomeSensor per value it reports), but what you'd normally adjust is the sensor's name, not the underlying component fields.

Reporting interval

Most BLU sensors measure periodically rather than continuously, to save battery. The default is often 30 seconds, with an allowed range from 5 seconds up to 300 seconds. A shorter interval gives faster updates in the app but shortens battery life; a longer interval does the opposite.

Sensitivity (motion sensors)

BLU Motion can be set to one of three sensitivity levels - low, medium, high - which decide how much movement at what distance counts as a detection. Lower sensitivity is a way to filter out, say, a pet moving around the room, without losing detection of a person.

Pairing

Briefly, see BLU devices and Bluetooth for the full flow: the device is woken with a button press, and four presses in a row puts it into pairing mode for 60 seconds. Add it from there via Add device → Add via Bluetooth in the app, with the phone close to the sensor.

Battery

BLU devices report their battery level as part of their regular measurements - no separate setting is needed, but it's worth keeping an eye on in the app, since a sensor with a dying battery often reports intermittently before it stops entirely.
